Steinlabyrinth on Grossmünsterplatz in Zurich

  • Steinlabyrinth on Grossmünsterplatz in Zurich

In 1991, Rosmarie Schmid and Agnes Barmettler took part in the “Zurich Tomorrow” project competition. This took place as part of the 700th anniversary of the Confederation. Their vision: 2 labyrinths “First public spaces for women in Europe” won an award.

2 labyrinths were planned, a temporary PLANT labyrinth in thezeughaushof (today Kasernenhof) and a permanent STEIN (STONE) labyrinth on Grossmünster Platz. Only the PLANT one was implemented. The STEIN labyrinth failed due to resistance from church circles at the time.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the PLANT labyrinth and the 50th anniversary of Swiss women's suffrage in 2021, Anna Leiser remembered this gap and, together with Zita Küng, contacted church and municipal authorities. As a result, this STEIN labyrinth was created on Grossmünster Platz over two years of work - together with the newly founded STEINLABYRINTH association. It was opened to the public on March 21, 2023.

March 21, 2024 - 1st year anniversary for this Stone labyrinth.
