Neoclassical white Lutheran cathedral (1852) dominating Senate Square in central Helsinki. Designed by Carl Ludvig Engel during Russian rule. Grand green dome with four smaller cupolas; broad stairway facing the city. Built as a symbol of imperial authority — today the architectural icon of Finland’s capital.
