Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill

Once a major Māori pā (fortified village), this volcanic peak was an important site for the Ngāti Awa and later the Ngāti Whātua tribes. The hill’s name means “mountain of the kiekie vine.” The obelisk on top is dedicated to Māori heritage. The hill offers panoramic views of Auckland.
