Three Peasants, Eight Naan Breads

Solution Step 0/0
Two peasants, hungry on the way, decided to stop to eat. One had 5 naan breads with him, the other had 3. As soon as they were about to eat, a third peasant who had no food at all came up and asked them for permission to participate in the meal, promising to pay. They agreed. When all the naan breads were equally divided and eaten, the guest paid 8 rupees and left.

How should the two peasants fairly share the money received?

Explanations

There are 8 naan breads in total. Every person would eat 8/3 of all the breads. Or, if each bread is split in three parts, every person would eat 8 parts.

The 1st person has 5 x 3 = 15 such parts. The 2nd person has 3 x 3 = 9 such parts.

The 1st person would share 7 parts, the 2nd one - 1 part. Therefore, the money should be fairly shared in the same ratio: 7 to 1, or 7 rupees to the 1st person and 1 rupee to the 2nd person.
